MicrodermabrasionDoes your skin need a pick-me-up? If so, Microdermabrasion can work wonders for your skin by smoothing your complexion and promoting the growth of healthy new cells. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin texture by gently removing dead skin cells in a safe, controlled manner. It’s a great way to rejuvenate your complexion quickly and without discomfort. What is Microdermabrasion?Microdermabrasion is a gentle mechanical form of exfoliation which enables the skin to regenerate more effectively. It has been used for the past 25 years for the treatment of acne, scar tissue and pigmentation marks but more recently has been found to be effective in the treatment of skin regeneration. What can Microdermabrasion do?Microdermabrasion aims to restore the balance of healthy skin cells in the stratum corneum (outermost layer) of the skin which protects the skin from the environment. The skin reacts to Microdermabrasion as if it were an injury and responds by repairing the injury with new skin cells. Microdermabrasion encourages these new skin cells to be produced more often and to come to the surface of the skin more quickly than normal. This process takes 28 days up to the age of 35 but takes longer and continues to slow down as we grow older. Who can have the treatment? It is recommended for the skin conditions mentioned above and also ageing skin. For optimum benefit a course of four treatments, one per week, is recommended. Following the treatment it is essential that an SPF15 sunblock is worn and appropriate hydrating homecare products are used for optimum results. How does it work?I use a Crystal ‘Smart’ Peel Microdermabrasion machine which has a controlled flow of extremely fine crystals which meet the highest possible hygiene standards. The crystals are activated by vacuum created low pressure and the strength of Microdermabrasion can be altered to suit each area of the skin treated. After the microdermabasion, acupressure massagers are applied to tone and tighten the facial muscles. This is followed by phototherapy (twin red and blue lights) to improve photocell rejuvenation for increased vitality of the skin. The treatmentI offer Microdermabrasion as a stand-alone treatment or, if appropriate, it may be incorporated into one of the many other facials in my treatment brochure. It wonderfully complements many facial treatments because it allows for better absorption of skincare products. ContraindicationsMost skin types are treatable with the exception of skin diseases and sunburn. I am happy to provide confidential advice in this area. Facial areas treated with Botox should not be treated with Microdermabrasion for 6 weeks and after Dermal Fillers you should wait 8 weeks. © Frances O'Reilly 2010Page last updated 16 May, 2010 11:53 |
